| STEP ONE | First you must find the file, program, or information you want... | Go to search page ftp.golden.net/pub or click on the SEARCH ICON Other places to find software are from the tucows page - click on the |
| STEP TWO | First you must find the file, program, or information you want... Once you find the file you want, you need to download it... | Downloading is simply copying the file
from the computer you find it on to your own. To do
this, you typically click on the file you want to
download. After you click on the file you want to
download, you will see a screen like this, page 1. |
| STEP THREE | Once you have clicked on the file, you will be asked to save it... | Save the file onto your hardrive in a place where you know you will be able to find it. For example the C:\TEMP directory, again you will see a screen like this, page 2. |
| STEP FOUR | Wait for the files to download to your computer... | The files will be downloaded to your computer and a status bar will show you how much time you have left to complete the download, this will look something like this, Status page. |
| STEP FIVE | Find the file you downloaded to your hard drive, it will be an .EXE/.ZIP file... | When files are downloaded, they are usually zipped (.ZIP) or self-extracting (.EXE) which means they are compressed so they are smaller in size and therefore easier to transfer. |
| STEP SIX | Now you have to extract or expand the file, then install it... | Once you find the downloaded file on your
hard drive, you usually double click on the file to
extract or unzip it. If the file has a .ZIP
extension, you will need to use PKUnzip to extract it

| STEP SEVEN | Now it is expanded or unzipped... | Once it is expanded or unzipped, you can either run it or set it up. Some programs, once they expand or extract, have a setup.exe program which you need to run to setup the program. These need to be installed. Others may just expand and be a few files, like the application, perhaps an .HLP or help file, etc., these are ready to run, just double click on the .exe file.
